Care Instructions
A WeeDo suit is built for two to three winters. Most of what keeps it going that long is washing it less, and washing it gently when you do.
The short version
- Wash only when it needs it
- Gentle cycle, 30°C (86°F) max
- Close every zipper, Velcro tab and strap first
- Mild, non-biological detergent. No bleach, no fabric softener
- Never in the dryer. Hang it to dry
- Water stopped beading? A low iron through a damp cloth brings it back
Wash it less
Most mud and spills come off with a damp cloth. To freshen a suit up, hang it outside for a few hours. Every wash wears the water-repellent finish down a little, so skipping a wash it doesn't need is the easiest care there is, and it's better for the planet too.
When it does need a wash
- Close all zippers, Velcro tabs and straps.
- Use a gentle cycle at 30°C (86°F) or lower.
- Use a mild, non-biological detergent, ideally one made for outdoor gear.
- No bleach or chlorine.
- No fabric softener. Run an extra rinse instead. It gets all the detergent out and leaves the suit softer.
Drying
Never tumble dry. Hang it on a hanger. Turning it inside out helps it dry faster, especially mittens.
Keeping it waterproof and breathable
The outer fabric has a DWR (durable water repellent) finish, and it's the main reason the suit stays breathable. It wears down after several washes, but it's easy to bring back.
Lay a damp cloth over the outside of the fabric and iron over it on low. The heat reactivates the water repellency. Never use a hot iron, because it will ruin the fabric.
Check the label
Every WeeDo piece has its own care label, usually inside the right side seam. It lists the exact fabric content, the water column, and whether the piece can be dry-cleaned. If the label and this page disagree, follow the label.
Repairs
